"Intentus: Alan Viader's Pursuit of Purpose and Place"
“Intentus” comes from the Latin for intention and purpose — the two principles that guide everything we do.
Growing up on his family’s VIADER estate on Howell Mountain, surrounded by vineyards and generations of hands-on winemaking, owner and winemaker Alan Viader found more than a career—he found a calling. Those early years shaped not only his palate and craft, but also his sense of responsibility to the land, the people who farm it, and the communities that sustain it.
After more than 20 years crafting world-class wines for VIADER, Alan launched Intentus in 2018 as an expression of his own philosophy: wines created with clarity, honesty, and meaningful purpose.
Always driven by curiosity and adventure, Alan uses Intentus as a way to explore distinctive winegrowing regions and partner with small, dedicated growers. Together, they produce limited-edition wines that celebrate place, purity, and integrity—wines that speak clearly of where they come from and the people behind them. Supporting these farmers and elevating their stories is not just fulfilling—it’s central to Intentus.

Beyond winemaking, Alan serves his community as a first responder—both with the Napa County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team and as a volunteer firefighter with Deer Park Fire Station 21. These experiences have placed him on the front lines of natural disasters and wildfire destruction. Witnessing loss, resilience, and community strength firsthand transformed his understanding of purpose.
Intentus was born not only from a desire to make great wine, but from a commitment to give back—to honor the everyday heroes who step forward when others cannot.

The driving purpose behind Intentus is simple but profound: to create wines that allow for meaningful charitable giving to organizations supporting first responders and communities in crisis. Every bottle is part of that mission.
